Teen Mental Wellness and Dogs

On March 2nd, World Teen Mental Wellness Day aims to raise greater awareness of mental health issues among teen. Many teens today will struggle with mental health and many may not know where to turn.

Dogs can have a great effect when it comes to Mental health. The simple act of cuddling and playing with a dog can raise oxytocin levels, which decreases blood pressure and heart rate and lowers stress, anger and depression.

Furthermore, as they need to be walked, they help facilitate positive behaviours like exercise, social interaction and daily routine. They provide unconditional love, companionship, and a sense of responsibility for someone other than one’s self.
